Senior GIS Technician

GIS Technician

The Planning and Development Senior GIS Technician is responsible for developing, creating, and maintaining GIS databases and layers with respect to planning and permit activities. Job duties include inputting and reviewing GIS data within an enterprise ESRI ArcGIS environment, editing CAD drawings using AutoCAD, creating map layouts and views of high difficulty and complexity, researching and resolving users inquiries, interpreting plans, plats, and legal descriptions, and performing spatial data analysis to meet business needs. The Senior GIS Technician will supply technical support for special planning and development projects that require visual or mapping aids for such project. The Senior GIS Technician will also be involved in writing Python scripts for automation of routine GIS tasks and procedures.

Currently there is one vacancy in the Planning and Development Department. This eligible list may be used by any department for current or future vacancies over the life of the eligible list.

$22.81 (minimum) - $34.80 (maximum) hourly / $47,445 - $72,384 annually. Appointment can be made above the minimum depending upon qualifications.

  • Two years of experience working with geographic information systems and two years of information systems or technology-related education OR;
  • A bachelor's degree in geographic information systems, geography, planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.
  • Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS – The job requirements listed above, plus:

  • Experience reading and interpreting property legal descriptions
  • Experience creating maps using the ESRI ArcGIS Desktop program.
  • Experience performing complex spatial analysis within the ArcGIS environment.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and SQL.
