Program Coordinator - GIS

Responsibilities
As a Program Coordinator (GIS), you will:

  • Be responsible for the GIS program, including the development, operation and management of the GIS related to the Federal Lands Transportation Program (FLTP) partner agencies.
  • Serve as the technical expert for GIS planning, development, and maintenance activities, related to the FLTP or the FLH and the National Park Service (NPS).
  • Coordinate GIS Interagency Task Team activities with State Departments of Transportation and other appropriate Federal, State, and local organizations. Develop and present GIS information at various FHWA, other federal agency, and other partner’s national, regional and local meetings and conferences.
  • Assist in preparing training and on-call user support in the use of GIS software and other Engineering Software.
  • Perform contract administration duties related to the development, implementation and operation of the GIS and IT mission critical activities which may include research, preparation of statements of work and evaluation criteria, participation in the evaluation and selection teams, and participation in benchmark/live-test demonstrations of vendor hardware and software proposals.

The ideal candidate for this position would have experience or knowledge of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the process of collection GIS data, analyzing, and visualizing the that data for use by programmers, planners, and engineers. The ideal candidate would also have experience expanding the use of GIS across offices in different geographic locations and coordinating/collaborating to reduce duplication of efforts regarding datasets and tools/applications using the data. They should have strong communication skills and have experience coordinating meetings and organizing multi-task project schedules. They should have experience in using computers for the use of word processing, data reduction, data input, and mapping software.

Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements.

To qualify for the GS-12, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to GS-11, it must include:

  • Experience analyzing, manipulating and modeling GIS data, reporting to other agencies, and incorporating into other GIS systems.
  • Experience in applying GIS practices and procedures that include linearly referenced data, analyzing data from other sources, geometric and global positioning systems.
  • Experience coordinating meetings and organizing multi-task project schedules.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
