Lead Cartographer (GIS Developer)

Responsibilities

  • Lead Cartographer assisting Section Chief in oversight and execution of all GIS development.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance reviews of applications developed by others.
  • Provide systems and programming services in connection with proposed development or troubleshooting of engineering type computing systems.
  • Plan and coordinate with multiple engineering and scientific disciplines to arrive at a mutually satisfactory approach and solution to complex problems.
  • Develop systems and applications on a variety of platforms.
  • Develop operating, testing, and implementation procedures to carry out system objectives.
  • Provides direct assistance to the District GIS and CADD Program Managers.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Lead Cartographer (GIS Developer):

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in cartography, or a degree with a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites).

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: one year of relevant specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service and have the ability to perform automation of workflows, data modeling, data management, database administration, server administration, and software development and testing for engineering and geospatial applications.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
