Internship - (GIS Technician)

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from High School or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience or three (3) years of education related to the job.

Recent graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with major coursework in Geographic Information Science (GIS), Geography, Planning, Social Sciences, or related GIS coursework. Must be considered in good academic standing by college/university standards.

Notes to Applicants
The Austin Fire Department (AFD) Research and Data Analytics Division is looking to fill a GIS Technician Intern position. The fall internship will begin August 19, 2019 and end December 06, 2019.

This position will be responsible for conducting geospatial analysis and creating detailed cartographic products for the department. This position is critical in helping administrators make informed, data-driven decisions and to support our Fire Operations mission.

About Research and Data Analytics:
Research and Data Analytics provides geospatial and tabular data, as well as analytic support, to each section of the Austin Fire Department, helping managers make data-driven decisions using information from a variety of sources.

Research and Data Analytics provides information and guidance on performance measure reporting, response time analyses, development of Standards of Coverage, automatic aid agreements with surrounding Emergency Service Districts (ESDs) and annexations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Intern responsibilities:
Include but are not limited to:

Creating detailed street maps and cartographic products for internal use, updating city-wide annotation databases, developing GIS and mapping process improvements and providing documentation, providing data to Emergency Service Districts and internal departments, implementing workflow migration from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro, assisting with ad hoc analysis, and other duties as assigned.

Pay Range
$15.00 hourly

Hours
15 -20 hours per week
with some flexibility
