GIS Internship

Summary:

Students participating in PEC’s Internship Program will gain work experience in their field of study, develop skills, make professional connections strengthen their resume, and assess their interests and abilities. The summer internship program will run for a period of ten to twelve weeks. Work location will vary based on assignment. Students may also be eligible to earn college credits during their internship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with coworkers, management team and other key stakeholders
  • Complete learning objectives identified for the field of study
  • Participate in short and long term projects related to field of study
  • Participate in department activities and complete assigned tasks
  • Complete a written evaluation at the completion of the internship period
  • Adhere to all PEC policies
  • Attend orientation and training activities
  • Complete intern off-boarding processes
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Stay abreast of advances in technology

This Intern position is assigned to the GIS Department under the Operations Business Unit and will work on projects and/or tasks such as:

  • Update NIS GIS mapping system by editing landbase and electrical layers
  • Attend project and team meetings to gain a better understanding of our work environment
  • Learn about the interaction of our software and the database and configuration of it
  • Learn about electric networks

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data, configuration, or processing information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Skilled in time management
  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
  • Skilled in data analysis and problem solving
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with Cooperative employees and members
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities

Minimum Qualifications – (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensure):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university OR
  • Participant in PEC qualifying program, i.e., Youth Tour or Scholarship Program
  • Major in GIS preferred

Some travel may be required throughout service territory.
