GIS Analyst

What does a Geospatial Analyst or Senior do for us?

  • Supports the geospatial information needs of company business processes. Applies geospatial and computing technologies to solve problems and facilitate decisions, in support of internal customer projects.
  • Applies technical Geographic Information System (GIS) knowledge and expertise in the design, development, management, analysis, integration, and administration of geospatial and relational database systems.
  • Manages geospatial and relational database information to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of enterprise information system components.
  • Applies Enterprise GIS technology to create web-based applications consuming enterprise and project geospatial data to support business decisions and workflows.
  • Senior level also manages geospatial and relational database information to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of enterprise information system components and utilizes business Intelligence tools for project tracking and relational database reporting to company leadership.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Analyst:

Knowledge of:

  • Good knowledge of geography, spatial analysis, and geographic information systems
    ESRI's GIS software applications such as ArcPro, ArcCatalog, ArcMap, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Field apps Collector, Survey 123 and ArcPad
  • Good knowledge of cartography, including map design, use, production, and projections
  • Good understanding of enterprise computing systems, including the interrelationships between components such as servers, storage devices, networks, and desktop computers

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of ESRI's GIS software applications such as ArcPro, ArcCatalog, ArcMap, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, Web App builder, ArcGIS Field apps (Collector, Survey 123) and ArcPad
  • Working knowledge of ESRIs geodatabase format and the design, development, and use of databases in that format
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and Microsoft software
  • Basic knowledge of global positioning systems (GPS) technology, and the integration of GPS data with GIS databases
  • Trimble GPS receivers
  • TerraSync, Pathfinder office software
  • Basic knowledge of digital image processing, surveying, coordinate geometry, and LiDAR data

Skills in:

  • Providing GIS project-level support
  • Communicating effectively with internal customers of varying GIS knowledge levels to assess
  • GIS support requirements
  • Using GIS software tools to design, develop, document, and analyze spatial data. Spatial and relational database management
  • Integrating spatial data from various sources into GIS databases and linking with non-spatial attribute databases
  • Spatial analysis and modeling
  • Use of Python, R, SQL, and excel to query, clean or make sense of data

Preferred:

Senior Analyst:

Knowledge of:

  • Strong knowledge of geography, spatial analysis, and geographic information systems
    ESRI's GIS software applications such as ArcPro, ArcCatalog, ArcMap, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field apps Collector, Survey 123 and ArcPad
  • Strong knowledge of cartography, including map design, use, production, and projections
  • Good understanding of enterprise computing systems, including the interrelationships between components such as servers, storage devices, networks, and desktop computers
  • Working knowledge of ESRI's geodatabase format and the design, development, and use of databases in that format

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Analyst:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in geographic information systems (GIS), geography, cartography, or closely related field

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred:

College course work specific to ArcGIS, ArcGIS Enterprise and other Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) software

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in the application of GIS technology, including:
  • 2 years of experience with ArcGIS software
  • Demonstrated experience using ArcGIS, and other ESRI software

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing GIS projects
  • Demonstrated experience in developing centrally managed GIS applications, particularly as they related to ESRI software ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS
  • Field apps Collector, Survey 123 and ArcPad
  • Experience creating Power BI dashboards and reports

Senior Analyst:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in geographic information systems (GIS), geography, cartography, computer science, or closely related field
OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in geographic information systems (GIS), geography, cartography, computer science, or closely related field

Experience:

  • 6 years of experience in the application of GIS technology, including:
  • 5 years of experience with ArcGIS software
  • Demonstrated experience using ArcGIS, and other ESRI software
  • Demonstrated experience in managing GIS projects
  • Demonstrated experience in developing centrally managed GIS applications, particularly as they relate to ESRI software ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field apps Collector and Survey 123 and ArcPad

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience using Arc2DRONE and/or Pix4D
  • Experience creating Power BI dashboards and reports

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work generally is performed in a general office environment but may occasionally require fieldwork for data collection and verification; such fieldwork may involve strenuous activities such as walking on steep, uneven terrain for long distances.
