The Contra Costa County Department of Information Technology is recruiting to fill one (1) Geographic Information Systems Manager position.
The GIS Manager oversees the entirety of the County’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) portfolio, including applications, data, servers, and maintenance. This person will manage a team consisting of GIS Technicians and interns. This team supports Esri-compatible software (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcPro, and Geocortex) for desktop use across the entire county.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned GIS professional with strong administrative skills, like contracting, budgeting, and reporting. A strong project management background and familiarity migrating to various platforms like Azure or AWS is extremely valuable.
The GIS Manager will bring astute negotiation skills to develop fair and consistent models to charge for service within the County organization. Additionally, they will possess the forethought to determine how GIS tools can help expand County service delivery and improve long term efficiency of county operations.
This is a hands-on, working manager position, and the GIS Manager will be expected to be both technically proficient as a technology professional but also have management skills to help train, mentor, and develop the team. Someone comfortable and familiar with emergency operations centers and public safety is ideal.

License Required: Possession of a Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the applications process.
Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Geography, Urban Planning, Geographic Information Systems, or a closely related discipline.
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience in developing and maintaining Geographic Information Systems applications.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis, up to a maximum of two (2) years.
