This may be your opportunity to put your Geographic Information System knowledge, skills and experience to work for the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD).

The statewide Geospatial Information Systems team is responsible to provide geographic information products and services through the development of spatially enabled applications, databases, mapping products, analysis, education and technical support. The selected individual will report to the GIS Manager and be based at Headquarters in Boise.

NOTICE: This position will require a fingerprint criminal background investigation before a final job offer is made.

Example of Duties

  • Manage ITD's statewide GIS Program including planning, design, implementation and oversight of major GIS projects
  • Coordinate GIS use within ITD and with external agencies and business partners
  • Analyze, define, model, implement, and maintain databases
  • Lead, plan and/or participate as team member when participating in large projects
  • Lead and/or participate in geospatial data conversion projects
  • Collect, create and update geospatial data documentations, including metadata
  • Use geographic information systems/computer aided drafting/database methodologies to provide mapping and reporting services
  • Conduct GIS and/or Linear Referencing System (LRS) training
  • Provide GIS support

Minimum Qualifications

Considerable knowledge of: GIS including analysis, data capture and data conversion; cartographic principles.

Good knowledge of: GIS programming languages commonly used in the development of GIS programs; database management; web APIs.

Experience: planning, designing and implementing GIS projects and preparing reports of findings; operating, applying, and programming GIS software products in a work environment.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • 3 or more years of experience working in an enterprise GIS environment
  • Experience using Linear Referencing Systems
  • Proficiency administering ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Portal
  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements
  • Skills to represent GIS as the subject matter expert in technology projects
