Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $17.90 to $31.47 an hour. The anticipated starting salary placement depends on qualifications, experience and salary budget, and will not exceed $25.00 an hour. Benefits include vacation, sick, and holiday time earned in relation to hours worked.

Conditions of Employment
This is a part time, temporary, non-exempt position. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.

Reporting to the Administrative Manager, School of Social Sciences, and with additional lead work direction from the Principal Investigator of the CalFire project and Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Geospatial Analysis (CIGA) in SSU¿s GEP department and the CalFire Sonoma Lake Napa Unit (LNU) Vegetation Management Division, the GIS Technician will support the department and unit with the development of GIS maps.

Under immediate supervision, the major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

- In coordination with Unit staff, create new and update existing Pre-Fire Attack maps.
- Assure standard product procedures and data management are followed.
- Assemble and assist in the collection and preliminary interpretation of field data.
- Provide draft products for review during process.
- Assist with transition from GIS product to Microsoft Publisher for design layout.
- Process GPS data with differential corrections.
- Assist with fuel reduction project boundary development, modeling, and possibly emergency incident mapping.

Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

Duties take place in an office setting located at LNU headquarters at 1199 Big Tree Road in St. Helena, Napa County. The normal work schedule is hourly intermittent to meet operational needs of the department. As a non-exempt employee, any request for overtime will be specified and pre-approved by Appropriate Administrator. Your specific start time is determined by your Appropriate Administrator. Evening and weekend hours may be required and will be specified only by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator.

This position requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by a course in statistics and one year of experience in technical research or statistical work (one year of graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration, or engineering fields may be substituted for the required experience). Additional experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities delineated above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Familiarity with ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Pro desktop GIS software, and ArcGIS Online required. At least two courses in GIS completed and one year of additional work experience using ArcGIS is desired.

The incumbent must have working knowledge of research techniques and the methods of preparation of research reports; working knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including methods of frequency series, data, simple correlation methods, sampling techniques, and construction of index numbers. Ability to assist in preparation of questionnaires, gathering and analyzing research data, and in compiling data for reports and summaries in tabular, graphic, and pictorial form. Ability to assist in preparation of maps, gathering and analyzing research data, and in providing high-quality data entry and pay strict attention to detail; ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to analyze situations accurately and to adopt an effective course of action; ability to speak and write effectively. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and work well independently as well as cooperatively in group situations. Must respect and closely-follow established rules when visiting field sites, particularly private land.
