What You'll Be Doing
Are you a well-rounded tech savvy spatial thinker? If so, join the GIS Property Mapping Team as a Geographic Information Services (GIS) Specialist. As a member of our team, you will handle parcel mapping, analysis, research and connect the team with internal and external customer requests. In this exciting role you will assist with acquisitions and maintenance of local and state right of way plans, boundaries, manage annexations and map corporate limits. This is an exciting opportunity for a mapping adventure through assisting the Property Mapping Supervisor with US Census surveys, major GIS projects and serve as lead trainer for new mapping processes and/or technology solutions.

Essential Functions:

Cartography and Mapping

  • Read and interpret source documents such as civil engineering plans, plat maps, legal descriptions and enter required GIS data
  • Determine needs of internal and external customers
  • Respond to requests for digital data, analysis or maps in a timely manner

Data Management

  • Lead and support internal and external QA and QC procedures and create quality control workflows
  • Create and maintain database files including non-geographic data and handle GIS system inquiries
  • Research, support and develop various GIS related files and relational databases

Technology Support and Special Projects

  • Provide assistance in the following: project management, complex analysis, application development and database management

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems or related field
  • Two years of experience in geographic information systems
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Research and taxation experience to accurately obtain property ownership and acreage history from the Register of Deeds
  • Communicate effectively, well organized and work independently in a team environment
  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Geography and Cartography experience or related field
  • Proven experience working with ESRI ArcMap, ArcGIS Online (or ArcGIS Pro), Farragut
  • ParcelSync and/or related mapping applications
  • Extensible Markup Language (XML) skills
  • Experience working in a local government organization

  • Ability to audit work to ensure quality standards are met
