GIS Specialist

GIS Coordinator

Maintains and supports the Water and Power departments Geographic Information System (GIS). Performs high level work in the maintenance of the utility's enterprise GIS and other integrated systems. Creates and maintains maps and other information products.

The salary range for this position is $24.43 - $36.63 hourly with an expected hiring range of $24.43 - $30.53 depending on qualifications and experience. 

Creates or updates electric, water, wastewater and other GIS features based on construction drawings and/or field data.  Works with and collaborates extensively with design staff, engineering and field crews to ensure accuracy and completeness of data.  Maintains connectivity and integrity of utility's geometric networks.  Independently coordinates data collection projects.  Collect field data using GPS equipment.  Creates geoprocessing models and scripts as necessary to facilitate tasks.  Creates and maintains professional maps and other information products as requested.
Provides technical support and training for users of the utility's enterprise GIS and other software.
Our Candidate:Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Working knowledge of editing GIS data with current version of Esri's ArcGIS.  Knowledge of editing geometric networks.  Knowledge of editing in a versioned geodatabase environment.  Ability to read and interpret utility construction plans.  Skilled in the use of GIS data in the creation of professional maps and other information products.  Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and/or experience:
Associates degree in GIS, civil engineering technology or related field required.  Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, civil engineering or a related field desired.  GIS certification desired. Three (3) years of working experience using ArcGIS software is required.  One (1) year of working experience editing an ArcFM geodatabase is desired.  One (1) year of working experience reading and interpreting construction plans is desired.  An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Licensure and/or certifications:

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Working Environment and Required Background Checks:Work is generally performed in an office environment and may require some bending and kneeling, sitting for extended periods of time, reaching and repetitive keyboard motion. Fieldwork may require incumbent to traverse several different types of typographical conditions such as rocky terrain. Moderate physical activity required by moving and positioning objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.
