UNL’s National Drought Mitigation Center has open GIS positions
Job Title: GIS Specialist I
Job status: Full time
Works with climate and remote sensing experts on a variety of operational drought tools and datasets; involved with research projects on an as needed basis. This position will have a familiarity with the R statistical package as well as MATLAB and ESRI ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro as well as programming and scripting within these packages. Employee should be familiar with the relational databases and experience with Structured Query Language (SQL); heavily involved in the migration of the NDMC models to R and assist in the development of a system to map models outside of the current MapCubist system. May be required to present results and processes formally and informally to both internal and external audiences.
B.A./B.S. in geography, climatology, meteorology, computer science, statistics, natural resources, GIS, environmental/water sciences, or related field required plus one year experience with GIS applications specifically ESRI ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro. Excellent computer and organizational skills as well as, oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet UNL driver eligibility requirements.
