Job Summary:

A career in GIS within the Engineering Services group, will provide the opportunity to map existing utilities for land development, asset management and utility projects. This typically includes generating a variety of GIS products and performing data searches and retrievals. Additionally, this includes assisting in the design, development, testing and implementation of GIS applications to meet customer needs and enterprise requirements; developing and maintaining GIS databases; and keeping track of utility information received from various sources and perform data conversion from field survey and record documents.

Roles within Engineering Services are responsible for a variety of engineering services functions that could include construction, systems engineering, design support, or similar engineering support activities. This includes ensuring the timely, thorough, and accurate completion of all engineering services projects. This also includes the preparation of new or modified designs. The Engineering Services team also maintains various activities and reports, drawing reproduction, and customer documentation. The team also selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage GIS and records departments for Natural Gas Utility
  • Assist in build and roll-out of GIS and records management system
  • Develop and implement processes/policies for timely and accurate update of GIS and Records system
  • Ensures integrity and quality of GIS and Records systems
  • Collaborates with the business to develop, promote and continuously improve GIS and Records.
  • Develop, track, and motivate department to meet metrics and KPI’s for key processes.
  • Participate in industry seminars and other functions.
  • Resolve cross departmental issues related to the accurate and timely filing of records.
  • Determine and implement industry best practices.
  • Focus on leveraging technology such as GPS and Tracking and Traceability.
  • Develop and manage budget for GIS and records departments.
  • Representative/spokesperson at internal and external meetings/functions.
  • Develop communications for internal and external users/departments

Roles and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing people and project resources to enable individual development and successful project outcomes
  • Assigning work and providing guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies
  • Providing input into process and policy improvement and administering budgets, timelines and performance requirements
  • Providing coaching and guidance on job performance and career development to direct reports You will also manage, perhaps through subordinate supervisors, the coordination of the activities of a section or department with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing.
  • It is expected that your decisions will impact others in the immediate team and influence results. Your role is expected to require understanding of how the team relates to other related areas and use that knowledge to improve efficiency and produce high-quality work on problems with cross-functional impact.
  • You are expected to solve moderately complex problems and lead others to solve issues of diverse scope, which require an in-depth understanding of the issue at hand. Additionally, you will use sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions.

Additionally, the level and nature of interaction of your role includes:

• Managing work of and actively directing professional development of direct reports
• Appropriately delegating/collaborating cross-functionally on assignments for growth of direct reports

A role that is within the Management level, is a role that contributes through the direct supervision and/or leadership of others by accomplishing results through those subordinate team members.

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or;
• Master’s degree with 4 years of relevant experience.
• In addition, a minimum of 1 year of leadership experience is required.
• Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
