GIS Inventory Technician

GIS Technician

This position performs technical and field work in support of the Engineering Services Division. The incumbent is responsible for conducting system inventory and coordinating the mapping of that inventory in order to improve the overall management of the City's assets.

Primary Duties

*Conducts system inventories, assembles records, and coordinates updates to master geodatabase with correct information.

*Uses CarteGraph asset management software, ArcGIS, Laserfiche, Pathfinder Office, and Trakit software to enter, track, and retrieve data for the various systems; and prepare reports as assigned.

*Operates basic survey equipment including, but not limited to, a handheld GPS Trimble data collection unit; uses the associated software to transfer field data to file geodatabase.

*Edits file geodatabase and uploads completed inventory to City's master geodatabase and asset management systems.

*Operates reproduction equipment to produce copies of maps, plans, reports, and other data.

*Uses computers for various word processing and spreadsheet applications; inputs data; and prepares reports.

*Provides assistance to Engineering staff as assigned.

*Communicates and responds effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals in the performance of the assigned duties and responsibilities.

*Maintains a basic knowledge and understanding of current civil engineering and design principles, theories, practices and techniques.

*Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.

*Understands and follows directions from supervisors, posted work rules, and procedures.

*Shows initiative in performing job functions.

*Completes work and projects in a thorough and timely manner.

*Operates a motor vehicle using a standard driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school, or equivalent, and two years of college-level course work in engineering or a related field, and two (2) years of applicable experience; OR a combination of applicable education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the primary functions of the position.
  • A candidate with experience in ESRI ArcGIS software (ArcMap, Arc Catalogue, and Arc Toolbox); editing geodatabases within a multiuser GIS (enterprise-level) environment; and/or GIS data maintenance and geoprocessing is highly desirable.
  • A Geographic Information Systems Certification is highly desirable.
  • Possess and retain a valid state driver's license without impending loss at time of appointment.
