In Vaisala’s Weather and Environment business area, our forward-thinking team focuses on providing solutions to react on challenging weather or air quality conditions.

We are currently searching for a highly motivated GIS Data Analyst to be located in either our Louisville, Colorado or Tucson, Arizona location, with preference given to Louisville.
This position is responsible for making our lightning data accessible and understandable through static custom reports, bulk data file transfers, and interactive web-based map interfaces. This role partners with other squads in the Vaisala Lightning Team, including data analysts, scientists, developers, and marketing to uncover patterns and trends through spatial mapping, creating both internal and external mapping applications and tools to visualize lightning data. This position is also the primary interface between Vaisala and the wider geospatial community, including serving as the primary point of contact with Esri as our Partner Representative.
Your key responsibilities include:
•Create custom reports by analyzing lightning point data and gridded data aggregations with GIS mapping software
•Manage large data transfers from the Vaisala databases to our customers and partners
•Build interactive web-based interfaces to be used in internal tools and market-facing products that visualize lightning activity in relation to assets and other POIs in a view
•Partner with our lightning subject matter experts to discover patterns and trends through spatial mapping and visualization of data
•Serve as a key point of contact for customers regarding the transfer, format, and quality of their real time and historical data
•Create tools to facilitate archive data ETL functions required for Vaisala's production processing in support of customer data orders
Who we are looking for
To be successful in this role, we´re searching for a candidate with the following qualifications:
•Education and years of experience:
o Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from a four year college or university in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or related field
o 1-5 years of relevant work experience
•Must prioritize and self-manage projects, working semi-independently in a team-oriented atmosphere where close coordination with other professionals is essential for success
•Expertise with desktop GIS tools: both commercial (ArcGIS, MapInfo) and open source (QGIS)
•Expertise with web GIS tools: ArcGIS online, StoryMaps, Tableau, and other interactive displays
•Expertise with GIS data: create, manage, ETL, maintain, archive, retrieve, visualize, analyze
•Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R, Ruby, and Python
•Proficiency with web development applications like Leaflet, Turf.js, and PostGIS
•Self-starter, able to operate independently with attention to detail and problem-solving skills
•Strong quantitative skills, especially understanding statistics and data analysis
•Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
