GIS Coordinator


  • Analyze, design, maintain and operate the Geographic Information System (GIS) infrastructure and databases within the District. Responsible for the development, maintenance and update of GIS software and its tools using advanced programming languages to automate District GIS processes, including generating business requirements, system analysis, data analysis, software programming, testing, debugging, implementing, and training, to display events, projects and assets and their statuses in a GIS map environment. Develop, maintain and enforce quality control and quality assurance methods and procedures to ensure that GIS data is current and meets expected quality and reliability.
  • Serve as the District’s GIS Coordinator. Perform highly advanced engineering work and technical assignments associated with developing and maintaining the District's GIS. Consult, advice, and collaborate with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Central Office, other districts, and local agencies to analyze and evaluate GIS needs concerning the analysis, design and requirements of programs, scripts and databases to support statewide GIS initiatives. Coordinate District GIS Users' Group meetings and serve as the District's representative on statewide GIS teams.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains general and detailed GIS applications and feature classes (layers) for the District using GIS technologies and practices, including maintenance of the District's base map(s). Direct and coordinate the analysis and design of various sections/offices geo-databases within the District.
  • Direct and train District staff on the use of Enterprise GIS. Research available new technologies, develop new processes and train employees on the new technology. Coordinate District GIS Users' Group meetings.
  • Creates and publishes technical reports, including but not limited to, specialty maps, custom map requests, and general information maps.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the engineering specialty area of GIS; knowledge in structuring and classifying information; skilled in ArcGIS and Microsoft Office software; skilled in independently researching problems, using problem identification and solving techniques; skilled in developing presentation and training materials; skilled in presentation techniques and public speaking; skilled in the organization and coordination of work assignments; ability to evaluate engineering processes and to solve problems relating to GIS processes; ability to communicate engineering information effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: During a declared emergency event, the incumbent will be required to assist the District as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or its equivalent and four years of relevant employment experience or; an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of relevant experience or; a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university including coursework in GIS.

A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00_______ will be added to the annual salary.
