DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs and assists in producing maps, reports, and complex analysis to support users. Develop/Implement applications and workflows to support various clients with Geographic Information System (GIS) and data needs to meet critical business objectives. Design, create, maintain, and update; maps, drawings, spreadsheets, data files, and documentation for a wide variety of uses. Prepare and format information for entry into the GIS database and work order systems. Develops expertise in Digitizing and Geocoding Utility Networks. Assists in establishing data preparation standards and procedures to insure data standardization and integrity and to optimize section productivity. Assist field personnel with mobile application/device issues and field collection standards/techniques. Conduct research on real estate, plat, title, deed, and easement information/documents. Communicate with internal and external clients to resolve problems and perform quality control. Identify applications, requirements and sources, hardware and software requirements for various data needs. Develop training classes and guide manuals for users and staff. Makes project presentations to users and staff.
The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier II Level.
Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information System, Geography, Geoscience, Planning or a closely related field.
No experience is required.
A valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with plan and profile drawings, Utility Distribution GIS Mapping, mobile mapping, title/deed/plat research experience, SQL queries, HTML, and Python.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
