Bowhead is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician to join our team in Charleston, SC. The GIS Technician will perform GIS feature theme development using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Suite software to assist in the creation, collection, maintenance, quality assurance, and integration of the District's Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE) and Non-SDSFIE geospatial datasets. The GIS Technician will be assigned projects requiring a multitude of applications for a variety of disciplines which may include; GPS-GIS format conversion, hydrographic/topographic quality assurance, real estate digitalization, map production, data entry and data extraction.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Maintain and develop Standard Operational Procedure's (SOPs), digital imagery processing and, under direct supervision, will perform basic GIS analyses on natural resources data.
  • Assist in planning, designing and developing documents and technical research and will assist in analyzing basic spatial and relational databases. A basic knowledge of global positioning systems (GPS) is required.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree, or equivalent certification, in a GeoSpatial discipline is required.
  • Three to five (3-5) years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education, in a GeoSpatial role is required.
  • Must have a background in GIS development and a minimum of 3-5 years in the workplace using ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Suite to digitize maps is required.
  • Must be able to interpret survey data (Bathymetric/Terrestrial) and existing aerial and satellite imagery.
  • Experience with IBM’s Maximo asset management tools and importation of CADD design drawings into a GIS environment is highly desired but not required.
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Public Trust clearance at this location.
