GIS Analyst

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs technical duties in the administration, development, implementation, coordination and maintenance of the County's Enterprise-level Geographic Information System (GIS).

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Provides advanced services in support of the daily operation of the Enterprise GIS. Typical tasks would include the operation of integrated desktop, server and cloud-level software systems to assist in the administration and manipulation of GIS-related datasets and related geospatial products; process automation using scripting and other appropriate tools and tasks. Ability to work well within tight deadlines using formal Project Management processes. Work is performed under the supervision of the GIS Manager.

Essential Duties and Tasks

  • Work with team members to perform database administration tasks to support the GIS data stores and the ArcGIS Server systems.
  • Perform tasks associated with managing users and content related to the ESRI Portal and ArcGIS Online platforms.
  • Manipulate geoprocessing tools to complete complex spatial analysis tasks.
  • Develop scripting and customize toolsets in support of process automation.
  • Develop and perform quality control and assurance processes for new and existing data sets.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining data sets.
  • Manage the integration of GNSS technology for field data collection tasks.
  • Coordinate with other Departments and agencies to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of geodesy, tax mapping principles and practices.
  • Strong IT skills, can manipulate complex databases, and highly detail oriented
  • Familiarity with formal Project Management principles.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Geographic Information Sciences or related field with major coursework in GIS related technologies and two years of experience in a GIS related discipline; OR An Associate's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Geographic Information Sciences or related field with major coursework in GIS related technologies and four years of experience in a GIS related discipline. Must be proficient in ESRI desktop software (preferably ArcPro) and familiar with ArcGIS Online/Portal.

Preference:
GIS Professional (GISP) or other related certification or related licensing.
Master's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Geographic Information Sciences or related field with major coursework in GIS related technologies with minimum of 5 years of experience in a GIS related disciplines.
