Primary Objective of Position: Under general supervision, performs a variety of cartographic functions involving computerized management and analysis of geographical data, data bases, and other documents. Assists in management of Geographic Information System (GIS) to prepare maps and databases for city-wide use.

GIS Analyst - Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in planning, geography, or related field and the creation and use of geographic information systems and two years GIS experience. Experience in computer assisted drafting software, GIS software, GPS data collection and database software preferred.
Utilize GIS and CAD software to prepare databases, maps and exhibits for Public Works and other City department projects; conduct mapping research, in field and in office, to resolve conflicting information and ensure accuracy of data; create and maintain databases and mapping for sewer, storm water, and water connections, addresses, and as-built drawings; create and maintain software applications to assist citizens and city/county staff in finding information regarding connections to public utilities, property information and maps; design, implement, and maintain spatial-based mobile field data collection applications; design and implement real-time, spatial-based reporting tools.
Assist and train Public Works staff in the use of GIS software; assist in the development of standards and implementation of procedures for creation and maintenance of maps and data; research data sources, digitize data and collect spatial and attribute data; work with other city departments, outside agencies, and other organizations to share, obtain, and incorporate information into the GIS; evaluate GIS hardware and software needs; prepare images, graphics, and maps for public meetings and informational purposes; perform other duties as assigned.
