Position supports the Environmental Division, providing GIS expertise and authoritative standardized spatial information, products, and services for the execution of the conservation and compliance GIS program. Creates and updates required vector and raster GIS layers to meet SDSFIE standards. Meets with military and other personnel to discuss mapping and database needs. Creates specialized products including environmental review (NEPA) maps, spill plan maps, asbestos maps, and other products as determined by the Environmental GIS Manager. Operates and maintains GIS system hardware, software and peripherals, including GPS equipment. Prepares metadata and provides access to data layers and mapping products. Participates in outdoor fieldwork, as needed.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree in geography or related field and 1 year work experience in the development and maintenance or geographic information system; or an associate degree in geography or a related field and 3 years work experience in the development and maintenance or geographic information systems. Knowledge of ESRI AreGIS Desktop 10.6, working with and editing within SDE geodatabases. Ability to perform data analysis, digitization and data comparison. Knowledge of basic cartography. Basic GPS operation. Works well independently. Experience with AutoCAD, networking and programming is preferred. An interest or backgrounds in environmental/natural resources GIS.
