GIS Analyst

Overall Purpose:

Working with the enterprise GIS system and processes associated with that system. Understands and interprets electric utility needs as it relates to the GIS and assists in developing applications and solutions to address those needs. Supports quality management of database structure and associated data dictionaries to ensure business & regulatory needs are captured in a complete and accurate manner.


  • Utilizes Geographic Information System techniques to provide a better understanding of certain variables in a given geographic location.
  • Assists with performing GIS Analysis to aid with resolution of business issues.
  • Supports communication of issues and resolutions encountered with GIS applications and data collection activities.
  • Provides as-needed support on Engineering Document Management System.
  • Supports development of business solutions by performing detailed analysis of business issues utilizing the GIS.
  • Supports detailed QA/QC of GIS datasets ensuring data model integrity and that production data is representative of production environment.
  • Provide support and documentation as required to GIS Technicians.
  • Develops GIS models to streamline business processes.

Education and Experience:


  • 1-3 Years of (Utility) GIS experience
  • ArcGIS Desktop Experience


  • B.S. in GIS or related field
  • 2 years’ experience with ESRI GIS software
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Model builder
  • Familiarity with enterprise IT systems
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with MS Office

Decision Impact:

  • Problems and issues faced are vague but may be recognizable based on past experience.
  • Accountable for some direct level of reasoning and decision making.


Independent discretion or decision making capability is mostly limited. There is normally a general framework of established boundaries to help employees perform their roles and make decisions. Situation that require deviation form this general framework are typically not made alone. The employee may recommend a solution however the recommendations are frequently presented to their manager or more senior level professionals for review and approval prior to the decision being made.

Physical Requirements:

Work location is a combination of office environment and field work. Desk and computer work is required. Must possess valid driver’s license and be able to drive to various company locations.
