GIS Analyst

The Institute for Children, Poverty, and Homelessness is an independent policy research organization based in New York City dedicated to improving the lives of homeless families. ICPH focuses on providing timely, accessible analysis to policy makers, service providers, and the media in a way that enhances the public policy debates surrounding issues of poverty and homelessness. Responsibilities Include:

- Work with multi-disciplinary team of analysts on issues affecting poor and homeless children and their families.

- Proactively investigate and participate in the development of new research projects that adavance ICPH's mission.

- Be responsible for geographic data analysis and mapping, including collecting and analyzing administrative data sets.

- Stay informed about new developments in the fields of public policy and poverty research.


- Master's degree or Bachelor's degree plus 1-3 years professional experience.

- Proficiency with GIS software, including Esri ArcGIS suite and ArcGIS Server/ArcGIS Online. Experiencing creating interactive maps a plus.

- Knowledge of general principles of cartography and ability to produce publication-quality maps.

- Experience with Microsoft Office; Familiarity with statistical packages such as Stata, SPSS, or R a plus.

- Strong follow-through skills and attention to detail under deadline pressure.

- The succesful candidate will possess a combination of skills, personal initiative, and a commitment to the role of evidence in bringing about effective policy change.
