Job Summary

Highly proficient in providing transmission pipeline data with research, analysis, extraction and presentment of modeled geospatial and associated attribute data to all levels of Mountain West Pipeline. Performs the most advanced data queries with report summation to address a wide range of operational data inquiries including an asset's geospatial reference, attribution, and/or hierarchical connectivity. Interprets modeled asset data in a GIS production environment against a wide range of geospatial data sources to correct and/or validate records prior to publishing. Deliverables include geospatial maps, web and mobile applications, engineering data extracts, asset model builds, data analytics, and other GIS solutions. Provides technical support and education for users of GIS applications. Leads or serves on project teams, as needed, to provide geospatial value to projects and decisions. Applies in-depth technical knowledge and proficiency in GIS field and in use of GIS software. Trains others in the group on functions related to the design, development implementation, configuration, analysis, reporting and maintenance of specialized ESRl ArcGIS / PODS based software used by engineering personnel for maintaining pipeline records in GIS. Produce map and data outputs for the operation and maintenance of pipeline systems. Work closely with the IT department in the support of the GIS system. Lead and assist others in generating data from the GIS and other data sources to support internal and external customers. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

The successful candidate will be placed in the mid or higher level position depending on experience and education.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

  • 2 years of education in Geographic Information Systems or minimum of 10 years GIS professional experience in the Natural Gas pipeline industry; BA, or B.S. in Geography, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Typically, 2 years' experience as a GIS Analyst II or equivalent job-related experience or education and demonstrated overall knowledge of the department workflow processes.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of ArcGIS and PODS data model i.e., features, attribution, relationships, and system configuration i.e. ArcFM interface, stored displays, auto-updaters, as-built rules. Knowledge, understanding, and skill to use ArcGIS applications to update and maintain company pipeline assets in GIS database. Understanding of company Standard Practices and pipeline industry terminology; how to create project plans and schedules; higher skill level in the operation and use of ArcGIS, GPS & CAD solution products; basic programming and debugging skill; how to create and develop GIS workflows and standard practices. Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to address multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to handle changing and emerging priorities. Understanding of GPS and Survey practices: DOT 49CFR Part 192 codes related to record keeping, including the National Pipeline Mapping submittal and HCA, MCA, and Class determinations. Ability to interpret aerial photographs. Excellent interpersonal, customer service, verbal, and written communication skills.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

  • Will be required to work on call, overtime, rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. May be required to work four 10-hour day work week or 12 hour rotating shift schedule.
