RedCastle Resources is a small, employee-friendly company that provides geospatial and information technology support to natural resource management agencies throughout the country and around the world. We specialize in the analysis of remote sensing, ecological, and other geospatial data, focusing on technical expertise and communicating with natural resource managers and other subject matter experts. The majority of our staff provide support through contracts with the USDA Forest Service, assisting National Forests, Regional and Washington Offices, USFS Research, International Programs, and partner federal agencies to use advanced geospatial data and technology for improved mapping, inventorying, and monitoring of natural resources.
This successful candidate will support the Quantitative Analysis and GIS Spatial Analysis Programs at the USDA Forest Service, Forest Health Assessment and Applied Science Team (FHAAST) in the area of geospatial data production and analysis. The GIS Analyst III will work as part of the RedCastle Resources team conducting mapping projects and updating authoritative (primary source) geospatial data for national programs such as Forest Health Protection (FHP). Primary functions will include developing and maintaining a large (primarily) raster based spatial data library (SDL) consisting of over 600 layers. These layers are used to develop upwards of 800 risk and hazard models each of which contains an average of three to ten criteria or geospatial layers, and provide the basis for assessments of insect and disease damage used by field staff, USFS leadership, and Congress. This individual should be proficient using multispectral imagery, image classification techniques, spatial modeling,
statistical analysis, and data mining tools.
The following characteristics are desirable:
● Proficient in ArcGIS Desktop and Pro, Erdas Imagine, Google Earth Engine (GEE), and/or ENVI for image processing and related image analysis routines;
● Skills for querying and linking tabular data to raster and vector data;
● Acts as a Technical Advisor with proficiency in analyzing natural resource related problems with geospatial products;
● A personal and professional interest in natural resources and the application of geospatial technologies to resource management problems;
