GIS Technician

RK&K’s Raleigh planning group is offering a position to perform GIS and other relevant technical functions to support a variety of transportation and planning projects, with a focus on transportation noise analysis. This is a dynamic role that includes team coordination with opportunities to learn, research and problem-solve, and will include periods of field data collection. The ideal candidate will have 2 years of applicable experience in GIS or closely related field. The person filling this position will need to show a high capacity for technical learning as well as the ability to apply basic GIS principles for problem solving. This position has excellent long-term growth potential for a nearly 100-year-old company in the stable transportation field.

GIS Skill Requirements:

  • Familiarity with ESRI desktop platform (required)
  • Experience with additional GIS software, ArcGIS Online, and CADD (MicroStation, AutoCAD, etc.), as well as field data collection
  • Ability to compile and organize a variety of GIS data to create tabular noise model elements and community feature mapping
  • Experience with geoprocessing and other GIS analysis tools
  • Experience in transportation, planning, design, and/or acoustics
  • Ability to create, edit, organize, and manage large datasets in different formats (ArcGIS, ASCII, Excel, etc.) and apply comprehensive QA/QC processes
  • Ability to work with a variety of data types (vector, raster, point clouds, imagery, etc.)
  • Familiarity with North Carolina GIS resources including Lidar

Other Requirements:

  • Detail-oriented, follows directions very well, eager to learn
  • Excellent verbal, research, technical writing skills, MS Word and Excel proficiency
  • Enthusiastic and motivated
  • Highly-reliable with a strong work ethic; available for occasional overtime when needed to meet deadlines
  • Organized, capable of simultaneously performing short-term and long-term assignments
  • Exceptional attitude and ability to work alone or in teams
  • Available for occasional day-long or over-night business travel for field data collection, meetings, and site visits (principally within North Carolina)
