Engineering Technician GIS/CAD

GIS AnalystGIS Developer

GIS/CAD Management and Engineering Survey : Supports the Geographic Information (GIS) program by maintaining the Kansas National Guard(KSNG) Common Installation Picture (CIP) and Local Geodatabase. Creates and maintains Spacial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment compliant GIS data layers and database needed by the agency under the direction of the Geospatial Manager. Creates and maintains metadate in the format for each layer created by the department or held in GIS data warehouse. Edits, converts and georeferences ACAD drawings to update CIP and various GIS features. Uploads data into department locations designated by KSNG for use by other GIS applications. Performs GIS analyses and generates reports as requested.
Maintains Army National Guard Real Property data adhering to guidelines provided by Army Installation Geospatial Information and Services. Conducts physical site surveys/real property inventory visits on properties and facilities maintained by the agency to produce accurate and up to date floor plans and site plans using GIS and AutoCAD software. Maintains hardware related to established GIS endeavors.

Cartography/Mapping: Assists in coordination and management of GIS program, develops mapping projects, maintains documentation to reflect details for historical reference. Operates and maintains large format engineering plotter used for producing maps or drawing plans.

Qualifications:

Required: Associates degree in Engineering, Geography, Environmental, or Computer Science, or 24 academic hours in Engineering, Computer Science, Geography, Environmental, Cartography and/or related math and science, and training in engineering, database management, and cartography.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geography, Environmental, or Computer Science and 2 years experience in Engineering, Environmental, and database knowledge/management. Certificate of ESRI Authorized ArcGIS Training, Certificate of Trimble Authorized Survey Training, and Certificate of Engineering Technical School with emphasis on GIS and Field Surveying.

Required Skills :

  • Proficient knowledge in GPS post-processing shoftwary, specifically Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office, to process field data for the purpose of developing and maintaining the agency's GeoDatabase.
  • Proficient knowledge in ESRI and Autodesk products, ArcGIS for Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS for Portal , and AutoCAD.
  • General knowledge and application of software and programming, including Microsoft Office, Python, SQL, JavaScript, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst. ArcGIS 3D Analyst, ArcGIS Explorer Desktop, and ArcGIS Defense Solutions.
  • Requires good organizational skills, the ability to write in clear, concise format, ability to work independently with limited oversight and ability to finish projects accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Familiar with Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment.
  • Experience with mapping grade GPS equipment and post processing software.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Security Clearance as a Condition of Employment.
