GIS Specialist

The Technical Specialist (TSP2) position is in Transmission Line Rating Remediation (TLRR) group under the Transmission Engineering Department within the Transmission & Distribution organization. This position will support GIS updates, drafting, design and technical functions for Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission projects from 55kV to 500kV. The main job responsibility will be to plan and perform updates of SCE’s GIS system for recent and planned projects, including GIS process standardization, contractor oversight and collaboration with Transmission and Distribution partners for data acquisition. Other typical responsibilities will include performing drafting and design function on transmission engineering projects, supporting project closure and reconciliation including drawings revisions and issuance for construction, and performing some project quality and quality control reviews.

Applicant must be highly capable of creating project plans, gathering data, assessing information, performing analysis and developing recommendations. They must have extensive knowledge and experience with graphical information systems software (ESRI) as well as drafting and engineering software, including Autodesk AutoCAD. They must be a good communicator, both verbally and in writing. Travel by auto and helicopter throughout Southern California Edison’s 50,000 square mile service territory, including to remote rugged locations is possible.

Typical Responsibilities may include:

  • Update the GIS database using ArcMap 10.4.1
  • Plan and Coordinate data sharing across multiple SCE Groups.
  • Create and implement a GIS update process for transmission data
  • Create and update construction drawings using AutoCAD 2016.
  • Update existing hard copy drawing using AutoCAD Raster Design 2016.
  • Provide general assistance with daily operations (i.e. data archiving and retrieval, drawing management).
  • Provide assistance in meetings.
  • Collect GPS data and create as-built CAD drawings.
  • Use standard equipment, plotters, scanners, range finders and digital cameras.
  • Demonstrate company values through decisions and actions. Creates and maintains a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four or more years of experience with ESRI ArcGIS
  • Four or more years of experience with AutoCAD
  • Valid CA Driver’s license.
  • Experience using one or more of the following: Microsoft Word & Excel.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in a technical field
  • Experience working with (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft).
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and manipulating complex data.
  • Experience working with electrical utility data.
  • Understanding of the Electrical utility system.
  • AutoCAD 2016 experience
