GIS Senior Analyst

GIS Analyst

This position will create ArcGIS Online applications, publish maps services, serve as project lead for GIS projects and staff of approximately 4-5 employees, perform high level spatial analysis for various county departments, support the complex database developing effort of General Plan Update and similar projects.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform research and analysis and make recommendations on solutions to urban and regional problems using GIS; Derive statistics and create reports and documents derived from GIS data.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to subordinate personnel.
  • Perform data modeling and integration with geospatial layers and enterprise databases.
  • Perform quality control processes on GIS and attribute information.
  • Consult with end users, clients and customers to determine GIS and system information needs.
  • Work with customers at all organizational levels in project development and develop project work plans/schedules and monitor project resources including staff time, vendor work and budget targets.
  • Perform GIS systems analysis, software setup and maintenance.
  • Prepare technical documentation including data specifications, user requirements and procedures.
  • Create cartographic and other products using GIS software, relational and object databases utilizing plotters, printers, digitizers, scanners and internet applications.
  • Provide public information and assistance to a variety of internal and external customers of GIS products and services.
  • Maintain, update and develop information attributes and geospatial layers.

RECRUITING GUIDELINES:

Knowledge of: Geography, geographic information systems, mathematics, including the principles of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, GPS, remote sensing and satellite imagery and statistics as applied to GIS related work; database structure and design; GIS systems and interfaces; map design and cartography; survey principles and methods.

Ability to: Apply techniques and practices involved to complete assigned GIS work and projects; make mathematical computations; tabulate and analyze data and prepare reports and maps; read and interpret legal descriptions, engineering drawings, survey notes, and tract descriptions; keep clear and accurate notes; do simple drafting; understand and follow oral and written directions; work cooperatively with others; a variety of rational databases, operating systems and GIS software including and not limited to Oracle, Informix, UNIX, Windows Professional and/or ESRI's core GIS products (ArcGIS, ArcView, ArcInfo).

Experience/Education

OPTION I

Six years of sub professional or professional GIS experience.

College courses preferably in one or more of the following; GIS, automated mapping, land surveying, geography, cartography, or computer science may substitute up to two years on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of experience. A

OPTION II

One year of sub professional or professional GIS experience.

A Bachelor's Degree preferably in computer science, geography, map making, English, cartography or closely related field.

-Creating/Maintaining map services experience
-Creating/Maintaining web maps & applications experience
-Creating/Maintaining web/mobile map applications (such as collector or GEO form)
-Esri suite or GIS software experience
-Enterprise geodatabase systems analysis or design
-Arc GIS Desktop software experience
-Spatial analysis experience
-GIS experience processing large databases
-Programming with SQL experience
-Programming skills (JavaScript, VB net, HTML5)
