Under limited supervision works on more complex, less routine projects and exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard GIS techniques, procedures, and criteria. Has a strong understanding of GIS concepts, and knowledge of a wide variety of software applications and functions. Can apply this knowledge in developing solutions to geospatial problems across many disciplines. Recommends process changes to GIS Manager and/or Engineers working on a given project. Mentors less experienced GIS personnel and offers advice and knowledge. Coordinates the implementation and maintenance of geographic databases. Researches, evaluates, recommends and implements technical and administrative solutions to forward departmental goals. Interacts with engineers, project managers, as well as the GIS group, more likely to have client contact.

Position Summary:
Using Geographic Information Systems, creates spatial features, develops databases, manages databases, performs data conversions, and spatial analyses.

Technical/Functional Responsibilities:

• Implements and maintains geographic databases
• Creates and analyzes spatial features
• Reviews and evaluates GIS data supplied by others- recommending any necessary changes
• Selects and adapts standard GIS techniques, procedures and criteria to fit each project
• Works closely with engineers and project managers to ensure GIS applications are accurate and complete

Qualifications

  • Prefer Bachelor of Science in an Engineering Discipline, Geography, or Computer Science. Minimum of high-school or technical-school training with courses in GIS, computer-aided drafting, and/or information technology
  • No experience required with a college degree, 2 years without, 4 years GIS experience
