GIS Analyst

GIS Analyst


  • Create, maintain and update databases using GIS
  • Extracts data from GIS software and uses varying analysis methods to arrive at results
  • Recommends appropriate reactionary strategies in response to GIS analysis
  • Provides maps and data sets to clients to supplement analysis
  • Works in conjunction with CADD drafters and technicians to develop final deliverables
  • Operate computer workstation to update maps as new data is received relative to new subdivisions, developments, capital improvement projects, zoning requirements, and other projects
  • Conduct research (Recorder’s Office, files, and database) of legal documents to insure correct platting of property descriptions
  • Produce printed maps for both showing map features, property boundaries, platted lots, recorded bearings and distances as applicable, parcel numbers, etc.
  • Provide technical and administrative assistance for the Company’s GIS program
  • Manage operation of GIS equipment, software, data, and products
  • Attend meetings, conferences, workshops
  • Perform other related duties as required


This is a partial listing of necessary knowledges, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list:

  • Strong knowledge of Oracle databases, GIS software and technology
  • Strong knowledge of MicroStation and Autodesk’s AutoCAD data formats and how to load data into GIS
  • Knowledge of mathematics as applied to engineering principles in the field of assignments
  • Skill in interpreting land descriptions, maps, drawings, charts, plans, survey records, and aerial photos
  • Ability to operate ArcGIS desktop software, ArcdSDE, and ArcGIS Online mapping and presentation tools and maintain such maps
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare map products while developing and maintaining GIS data sets
  • Ability to read legal descriptions, deeds, plat books, maps, and software procedures manuals

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Engineering, GIS, Geography, Computer Science or a related field
  • 5 years of experience using GIS including 3 years of experience operating ArcGIS desktop software, ArcdSDE, ArcGIS Online, MicroStation, and AutoCAD

GISP Certification preferred

Must be physically able to operate a variety of job related machines and/or Office Equipment
Must be able to move or carry job related objects or materials
Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary or office environment work


  • This job operates in a professional office environment
  • May require occasional visits to field sites where dust and noise may be present
