*** This posting will be used for up to 2 internship positions. Interns will work up to 40 hours per week in Grand Rapids, MN. The anticipated duration of the internships will be from approximately May 2017 through September 2017. The internships will work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. ***

These interns support various geographic information system (GIS), remote sensing, and data entry projects in Forestry's Resource Assessment (RA) in Grand Rapids. Interns will perform data entry, data and photo manipulation, and other entry-level GIS tasks for RA land inventory and assessment projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

To be eligible for an internship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a student at an accredited educational institution; AND
  • Your advisor must certify that you will either receive academic credit or fulfill an academic requirement. The signature of a sponsoring academic instructor is required prior to beginning an internship.

AND

  • Majoring in one of the following areas: Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or GIS.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills sufficient to review and compare data.
  • Experience with computer applications including Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn other applications.
  • Spreadsheet skills sufficient to develop and modify electronic spreadsheets to compile lists or track projects and activities.
  • Writing skills sufficient to create, format, edit, print, and save memos and correspondence.

Preferred Qualifications:

Coursework in GIS and/or remote sensing skills.
Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting articles such as 50-pound bags of feed maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
